The integration of information technology as integral part of modern mechanical engineering and the linkage of research and education to industrial needs are our fundamental targets.
Advanced teachings
Besides our lecture concerning information technology and programming languages in the first semester, we are introducing students in the second semester to 3D-CAD based methods of geometric modeling. This approach initiated the move from a drawing board based course to an education based on parametric geometry modelling using 3D-CAD systems (also known as “Darmstädter Weg”).
Core competence: Virtual Product Development
The principles and methods of processing product data are still quite challenging. To understand product data, product data flows and product data processing, the holistic approach of Virtual Product Development has been chosen for education and research. Therefore Virtual Product Development is offered as a series of courses for graduates.
Research perspective: Industrie 4.0
In research, the Department of Computer Integrated Design connects the four research fields “Information Modeling”, “Virtual Product Creation”, “Collaborative Engineering” and “Digital Factory”. By the evolution of information and communication technology, economy faces the 4th Industrial Revolution. To ensure competitiveness of Germany as production site, the Plattform Industrie 4.0 has been founded. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reiner Anderl is the spokesman of the scientific advisory council. The Department of Computer Integrated Design supports the transfer of knowledge from science and research into industrial environment. The scientific expertise of the Department of Computer Integrated Design is continuously enhanced by numerous research projects and cooperation with industry. If you want to learn more about Industrie 4.0, you are invited to contact the Department of Computer Integrated Design as competent advisor.
